The Last Leg

Welcome to the final leg of the “Bring-Thing-One-home-(finally)-after-more-than-twenty-years” Trip!

If you want to start at the beginning…

We have been trying to get Thing One to move back the East Coast since he left and believe me the family is thrilled for him to be back. Especially since we all know that either CA is 1. going to burn itself off the map or B. it will soon fall into the ocean.

Isn’t that what they’ve been telling us for about a gazillion years now?

ANYWHO…

After Yellowstone National Park we headed for our last two sightseeing tours before booking it home. We were on a schedule, you know– the rental car had to be returned to Charlotte Douglas International Airport or we would turn into a Goon!
(At least that’s what Thing One told us– and I, for one, believe everything he says.)
I’m serious as a heart attack Little Bunny Foo Foo!

BUT first…

Crazy Horse

Crazy Horse is roughly 17.8 miles from Mt. Rushmore and is a work in progress. If you happen to find yourself traveling to Mt. Rushmore it’s worth the short 30 minute drive. It will be completed on the fourth of Neverary.
(Personally, I think they bit off a little more than they can chew but it’s a pretty neat place.)

The Entire Crew
A first!

Mt. Rushmore

Mt. Rushmore is something I have wanted to see my entire life. Dreams really do come true and it did not disappoint!

Incidentally, it is also the place Mini Me asked about the entire trip.

“When are we going to see the faces?” Mini Me asked… only every day and twice on Sunday.

“Eventually.” We would tell her. Well… eventually, eventually arrived!

WOOHOO!

We were all so excited to finally be in the one place Mini Me had so looked forward to the entire trip.

“So, what do you think Ivy? Do you like it?” Thing Two asked nudging Mini Me in the arm.

“No.” Mini me said matter-of-factly.

Thing Two and I just looked at each other, mouths agape. Our countenances fell as our hearts sank into a pool of liquid disappointment around our feet.

“No, I didn’t like it…” She said her face a mask of seriousness. Then she grinned and yelled “I LOVED it!”

And there was much rejoicing…

Modern day living replica of Mt. Rushmore
(Ok– yeah… so I guess I get it honestly)

From there on out it was drive, drive, and more driving until we finally landed safely (thank goodness) in NC. We returned the rental car on time and I’m happy to report no one turned into a Goon!

When we arrived home my husband asked Mini Me. “So, tell me, what did y’all do? Just drive and drive all day?”

Mini Me threw her hands up in the air and rolled her eyes. “Uh… no, Dad” she sighed and shook her head as if to say I mean that’s just preposterous.

At this point I got super excited because I knew in that very moment she was going to tell him about all the many wonderful adventures we had.

She continued…

“Of course not Dad,” She said still shaking her head, “we had to stop and pee!”

That concludes the Road Trip!

I know, I know… as they say– all good things must come to an end. Thanks so much to each of you who have stuck with me through the telling of it. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Who knows? Maybe soon I’ll be able to rope the crew into another trip and maybe, just maybe, we can talk the little bro into joining us. When the four of us get together… Well, let’s just say it gets real crazy.

Be blessed!

Mount Rushmore was fantastic. When I saw it, I thought it was worth the trip. As for Crazy Horse, well it felt to me a bit like its true purpose was revenue generation. I suspect the actual Crazy Horse would not approve.

All of the pictures and tales of the road trip have been fabulous but “We had to stop and pee” really sums it up.

Such a great trip and only in your funny spin is it hilarious. Can you be the tour guide with mini me on our next trip? Although my camping days have shifted to hotels at night .. hahaha,
What a special time to conclude your post with the “FACES” that we didn’t like but LOVED during this time.. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘β€οΈ Cindy

It looks like one of those trips you’ll laugh about for years. Nice that Thing 1 is out of CA. It’s so sad what’s happening there.

Wow. Well, the first time we went to see Mt Rushmore it was completely fogged in. We asked and the person at the gift shop told us it was probably going to be fogged in like that for several days. A few years later we went through and really got to see it. Very cool picture post.

Thanks Herb. It was a highlight for me because at the beginning of this year (as in the beginning of 2020) I thought β€œthis summer I want to go to Mt. Rushmore.
But then 2020 happened and I thought β€œforget that”… And yet still somehow I got to go! It was the biggest blessing to me.

That must have been a great trip.
The modern day replica looks awesome.
We were there in the month of May, there was great wall of fog that blocked every view, bummer.
Crazy horse is on the way, so we all have to wait !!!
