Road Trip Recap Part II

Yosemite National Forest

When I say we were booking it, I mean… we were booking it. I told you Thing One & Thing Two had a plan. I knew they had a plan. They knew they had a plan. Ivy even knew they had a plan. I just had no idea what the plan was.

They said ‘drive.’

I drove.

They said ‘Stop here.’

I stopped.

They said ‘Drink this Kool-Aid.’

By golly, I drank the Kool-Aid. And you know how dangerous it is to drink the Kool-Aid…

They said ‘Here eat this Ham sandwich for breakfast, lunch & dinner.’

I said, ‘Whahhh? No way. Not without green eggs!’
(I have my limits you know.)

But they completely ignored me and I was forced to eat ham sandwiches for two days straight.

Beck, nobody cares– get to the pictures.

Allrighty then

The pictures…

Yosemite National Park
Just to put it into perspective… those are very large trees at the top of the rock face.
I tried to whisper to them but they couldn’t hear me.
Wait… I mean they kind of heard me.
They were like “What? Speak up. We can’t hear.”
I said “No, you don’t understand. I have to whisper.”
Pano view

It was dusk by the time we got to Yosemite National Park. And like I said Things One & Two were on a mission.

Your mission should you choose to accept it– Go to Mammoth Lakes. (This message will self destruct in 2.7 seconds)

‘Stop! I don’t choose to accept this mission.’ I said. ‘I just want to find a hotel and sleep.’ But alas, I had no choice in the matter.

Onward!

Through Yosemite we traveled deep into the night until we came upon something incredible…

The Wild Fires

No, this is not hell.
(But it might be close)
Yosemite on Fire
I kid you not…
It was burning.

Now I understood why it had been raining ash all day in the Sequoia’s. The smoke was so bad all the views were obscured. Still, it was an incredible experience to see how vast these fires really are.

The next day our iPhones informed us that CA had closed all it’s National Parks due to the fires…

We barely made it.

Mammoth Lakes

Do you want to know the most magical part? The next morning there was a piping hot cup of Starbucks coffee waiting right outside my hotel door.

Thank you Thing One!

And the evening and the morning were the first day (of the road trip)

I know right? At first I was a little upset that we didn’t get to see Yosemite by daylight but seeing the wild fires at night was an incredible experience.
    Thank you FR!

    Thank you Alina!
The wild fires were an incredible experience. At one point, we heard what sounded like a huge explosion. One of the trees must have fallen… it was crazy.

Damn. Forest fires are so scary the way they spread. Koolaid reminded me of how some people try to dye their hair with it xD

Your writing style is always so much fun to read 😃
Sounds like you had fun! Even though Yosemite was on fire, I’m glad you were able to have a different kind of view. Still pretty in its own way! I actually went to Yosemite last year, it was so beautiful! Glad you were able to make it 😁❤

Incredible pictures of the fire in Yosemite. You all were lucky to get there when you did and leave safely.

We were! I would say I couldn’t believe our luck but I do believe my life is full of magic so I’m not surprised at all that they closed the parks the day after we passed through! It was quite an experience.
One I am truly thankful for.
    Thank you Pat!

It has been a while, but I have been to Yosemite National Park, which made it all the more shocking when I saw your pictures of the fires taking place there.

I think of the wildlife with the fires and it’s just heart-breaking. It would be incredible to see that. I’m glad you’re safe.

    Nature is incredible.
I did not know this but the bark on the Sequoia trees is fire resistant. Most of the sequoias we saw had burnt areas on and around their trunks!
Wildlife for the most part (a few exceptions of course) are highly intuitive, can ‘feel’ something isn’t right and get away before any real harm is done.
The same is true of wildlife and storms. That’s why it gets eerily quiet before massive storms.

Hi Beck, I love CA’s Ntnl Parks. Hate it see Yosemite on fire again. I agree, your writing is always enjoyable. 🌞
