It’s a pretty old idea actually, repeated in many cultures. Hawaiian Huna for example teaches “Energy flows where attention goes”. One of the ideas that the new agers ganked from various Eastern schools of thoughts also is that “like energies attract”. Part of “Law of Attraction” teaching as well. And then there’s “just” psychology… “If all you can see is poverty and suffering, that’s all you’ll experience because you’re fixated on it.”

Everybody has to figure things out for themselves. Better than advice is stimulation of the thought muscles. Probably maybe. Sometimes people just need somebody to listen, that’s all, they don’t want advice or to have to listen to irrelevant sermons. Kinda like….release of mental or emotional tension.
